Today marks 89 days to commencement. And I've decided to take my panic and stuff it into a little box. And to wrap it in a list of 89 things to think about as commencement draws near.
- I have a job lined up already,
- in my field,
- for a well-loved company,
- who made an awesome offer;
- that includes bangin' relocation.
- Laura will come apartment hunting with me in May.
- I get to travel to Idaho and California to see family in March.
- I need to make dates with my parents more.
- My thesis is under way.
- I love writing, so
- my thesis is actually fun to work on.
- I have lots of ideas for thesis:
- I am weaving a new fabric this week &
- starting drawings for the next jacquard.
- I bought a Nook!
- My Nook makes me read instead of watch TV.
- I am sleeping better without watching so much TV.
- I have a plan to get my cavities filled.
- Including an appointment for tomorrow.
- Spring semester = staff selection season
- I will spend an awesome Thursday interviewing people for my job.
- I will get to be a giant ResLife nerd for interviews.
- Doing interviews makes my departure feel more real.
- My birthday is in April.
- It's a chance to have a party.
- I will have at least 2 parties before I move away.
- I like parties.
- I might buy a new dress for the parties.
- I love dresses.
- I might be able to buy a smaller dress for the 2nd party.
- I have been on South Beach for 1 month.
- So far it makes me feel great.
- Yoga on Wednesdays is the balance I need in my week.
- Yoga on the weekends makes me feel like I can do anything.
- Including deal with short bouts of panic.
- Like learning I might have to move the week of graduation.
- Moving will mean having a bigger kitchen.
- And a bathtub.
- And hardwood floors.
- I would also like a dishwasher.
- Though I would settle for more counterspace.
- And possibly a deck.
- Spring is coming.
- The perfect time to read outdoors.
- Our campus looks gorgeous as the seasons shift.
- It will be warm here sooner than in Minnesota.
- I will get to show Laura what the city is like.
- It will be like going on vacation. Kinda ;)
- I get to spend the semester immersed in studio work.
- I get to weave on the jacquards every week.
- I have the best commute I've ever had.
- I look forward to having 1 job.
- I will miss being in the studio.
- I will not miss 3am wake-up calls.
- I am going to invite family from all over to my show and to graduation.
- I will be able to show my family something they understand: beautiful fabric.
- I will be able to take my portfolio with me.
- I can show my portfolio through my website.
- On my Nook.
- Anywhere with WiFi.
- My car is paid off.
- If I pay @$1000/month for @10 years my student loans will be paid off.
- I will have a master's degree.
- I had no idea where grad school would take me.
- Things have worked out incredibly well.
- Everything that was scary became something awesome.
- I will have a job that directly relates to my degrees.
- I will be able to share that with people at my high school reunion.
- Which I will attend with 2 of my oldest friends.
- I will have time to spend with friends and family before moving away.
- I will be able to afford moving.
- I enjoy house hunting.
- I can make new curtains for my new place.
- I can't wait to have my family out to visit.
- I might have to buy a coffee machine just for them.
- I have a ton of work to do between now and then.
- Like drawing
- and packing
- and mounting the show
- and packing
- and photographing
- and updating my website.
- My staff this year is awesome.
- I get to spend the rest of the semester with them, too.
- I've met a ton of awesome people in grad school.
- Intelligent, talented, dedicated people.
- I never thought I would be here.
- Grad school has been an incredible challenge,
- and a blessing.
